ABOUT QUEENS MUSEUM

Founded in 1972, the Queens Museum is located in the nation’s most culturally diverse county, on the grounds of the 1939-40 and 1964-65 New York World’s Fairs, and in a building that formerly housed the United Nations from 1946 to 1950. The Museum owns more than 10,000 objects related to those two iconic expositions. The World’s Fair Visible Storage was inaugurated after the Museum’s renovation in 2013, and features over 900 objects from the larger collection. It provides an opportunity for students, scholars, and the general public to view items formerly off-limits to the public.

Lynn Maliszewski, Assistant Director of Archives & Collections, was hired in August 2020. She cares for and manages objects related to the 1939-40 and 1964-65 New York World’s Fairs; the Museum’s art collection; and our institutional history. Before joining the Museum she was an associate director at Callicoon Fine Arts. She has worked in an archival capacity at Andrea Rosen Gallery, Primary Information, and Printed Matter, all in New York City. Maliszewski is an experienced editor and has written for BOMB and The Brooklyn Rail, among others, with an emphasis on artists’ books and archival projects.

Disneyland Goes to the World’s Fair (1964)

A television show that aired on May 17, 1964, it offered a look at the history of world’s fairs and was followed by a preview of Disney attractions at the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair. In the special, Walt Disney explains Audio-Animatronics®, the new Disney process that helps bring inanimate objects to life. This show is unrated.
